Trailer Talk / Re: MacGyver (2016) Season 1
« on: October 23, 2016, 08:06:08 AM »

I still have many issues with the new MacGyver. The basic concept of the original show was that all the effects were done practical and every contraption MacGyver made worked in real life. This new show has some fun moments, the characters are mostly likeable and it doesn't take itself too seriously. But I am missing a lot of the heart the original show had. And most of the things on the show is either a special effect or done in CGI. I can live with the idea of a younger MacGyver. But with every cool idea they have, it keeps missing the target just a smidge. At the moment I am still on the fence on if I will like the show as a whole. It still has the potential to become a great show...eventually. Hopefully with next week's episode, the gage will lean more towards like than dislike.

I know what you mean,, saw the two episodes, there are some funny moments and ok young macgyver, but as you said the cgi is really overrated in here.. makes the show a -ish... glad i got the old show on dvd..
The show does get better in later episodes...a little bit...

hope so! cause it isnt really wrong only that tiny thing "cgi", but then again it will do the old macgyver good as i already saw some reports that the old dvd boxes are selling again, but then cbs is thinking of bringing them on blu-ray.. nah not for me.

Movie Talk / Gatchaman (Also Know as G-Force: Guardians of Space) 2013
« on: October 13, 2016, 06:35:13 AM »
This is somewhat simular as Starblazers from my previous post, and in deed a live action movie of the same cartoon from the 70/80's.

However this was nothing what i was expecting from the movie compared with the cartoon, as for one the movie starts out a bit boring as if i was watching some old 90's shows combined into one movie flash, even some scene where if it was like a cosplay acting up thing. however the suits where good to see, they actually tried to make the suits as like the cartoon version but a bit different (but understanding), however in the whole movie we see them fighting as g-force against their enemy but thats acually all we see running, fighting, some drama here and there and humor (as they try), but it i was expecting more like the old cartoon version one had a f1 job the other music and such here we see them go behind bars mostly or something what i can make out of, and at the end we finally see the phoenix, allot different and not the same as what they had done with the yamato and thats not all we see him in only a few scenes fighting and changing into the fire phoenix. oh and Galactor is female in this movie.

i haven't seen the whole movie yet as my attention drops away from the movie since it is more talking then doing.
but maybe fans likes it or not, let me know.

my overall score for this on is 6/10, reason i give it a six, is mostly as the movie is good to watch but to me it isnt really g-force as i know it and with some scenes out of place and even bad cgi.

Movie Talk / Space Battleship Yamato (also known to us as starblazers)
« on: October 13, 2016, 06:17:15 AM »
Now this was one of my biggest dreams that came alive the live action movie of the franschise, directed by Takashi Yamazaki in 2010.

Now i have this movie on blu-ray and have watched it several times, however dont expect it as the old cartoon was.
yes it is a bit different then the original since the scene we see in the start of the movie is being placed on earth at a somewhat minning facility where we see Susumu Kodai (played by Takuya Kimura) and not in space where we would see the fight between the captain and his enemies. it will but later after the the scene on earth where also the pod drops with the alien female.

The story does follow the cartoon version so we dont have much to say on that as their mission is to go to the planet Iskandar to get a device or something to cure the earth from his radiations from the war, however this is somewhat different as in the cartoon version the started out on mars as friends and heads back to earth HQ to follow up with their new job on the Yamato, in the movie their is word for volunteers for a dangers mission in space where Susumu Kodai for volunteer and must proof he is worthy for this mission and it isnt easy for him because of a past he has.

however i will not tell the story on how the movie plot goes, but more like a compare to this movie and his 70/80's cartoon (also the cartoon version has also been re-done).
The movie has great detailed information on the yamato, its like the cartoon came to life, and they did an amazing job on making everything as real as like the cartoon version, however there were some changes in the movie as for the crew and ship.
for one The female character that we knew in the old starblazers had a different role then in the movie.

in the cartoon version she was more like a companion rather the a fighter in the movie, however she does a great job in it and makes the character stronger.

the story is similar like the cartoon version only shorter and but there is lots of good space battles in it, so no disappointments in there too.

ok, spoiler ahead...

however i did had hoped they would make a next movie or even a tv series out of it but unfortunately the yamato gets blown up with the main important character, although it looks like it as we see a big explosion and no rubble..

i do say for fans that the blu-ray or dvd must indeed be with the collection if you have the cartoon series.

my rating for this movie was a overall for a 9/10.
